An eCommerce kids clothing company and website. I helped to create this website and get it indexed and ranking for keywords central to the company.

Mika & Milo Kids Cashmere

This site was launched in 2016 and was originally a WordPress WooCommerce site. The theme was purchased from Theme Forest and tweaked by me to boost its' SEO as well as implement some customization. However, it soon became apparent that we needed a better solution for this eCommerce site and we switched over to Shopify.

Website Goals

  • Achieve high rankings for keywords central to the core products being sold on the site.
  • Ensure that the products were well-placed on the site with enough Call To Actions.
  • Ensure that there was regular cotent and backlinking taking place to further bolster the rankings.

Project Overview

This project was for a client when I managed my Hong Kong SEO agency. The client needed a site to showcase their children's cashmere collections. The keywords that they wanted to rank for were connected to the products that they were selling. The project was a success with us being able to index and rank for some important keywords for the business (see below for key metrics in 2022).

The Challenge

One of the biggest challenges for this project was the website. We initially went with WordPress WooCommerce, which in hindsight was an error. The reason why I found it to be "an error" - and something from my own personal experience, was that I find WooCommerce unnecessarily complicated for what it is trying to achieve. I therefore made a decision to switch the eCommerce platform to Shopify, simply because I find it much easier to manage and maintain. I'd prefer to spend more time on SEO and marketing rather than tech management.

SEO Approach & Solution

Reaching #1 for the branded keywords was simple - because Google will always reward you with your brand terms (as it should), but getting traction for some of the other product items and catgories took a while but I was able to rank for some prized keywords which still drive sales to this day.

What's Next For The Website?

I'd strongly recommend that the business invest and carry more products for the simple reason being that more product categories means more keyword and sales opportunities. Children's clothing is an interesting niche and one that will always carry demand especially with regards to SEO and SEM.
